small-parks-honest-light
Hey! We just released a new LP by Small Parks. It’s called Honest Light. We really like it! Stream it below and order the LP here!

small-parks

Small Parks have been bringing thoughtful, melodic, and high energy music to the world since 2012, playing house shows, festivals, and everything in between, spreading their brand of later Saves The Day meets Sunny Day Real Estate meets Death Cab For Cutie emo/punk throughout the Mitten State and beyond. After a handful of self-released EPs, they unleashed their debut full-length Honest Light digitally in spring 2016, partnering up with GTG for the vinyl release in October 2016. With plans for further DIY touring on the docket, Small Parks are bound to continue to remain a staple of the midwestern underground for years to come.

Pre-Order GTG087: Secondaries/ Dubois Split

dubois-secondaries

New releases keep coming! A little while ago we schemed to co-release a split 7-inch with Diet Pop Records (these folks who helped make this happen) and Mouse House featuring our southern California buddies Secondaries and true Texan heroes Dubois. It’s now available for streaming and pre-order at the Diet Pop site, check it out! Dubois are new friends of ours and we can’t wait to learn if they prefer the French pronunciation or some fantastic Texan interpretation, but Secondaries are a bunch of old Plurals homies that we’ve been rocking alongside in bars, warehouses, warehouses that feel like bars, and other strange places from the shores of Lake Michigan to the tip of the Pacific. Happy to make it official now! For fans of anthemic gruff ‘n melodic punk ranging a la Latterman, Hot Water Music, Shang-A-Lang, AJJ, to etc etc and so on! More vinyls!!

Two California bands, two Michigan bands, eight songs of shout-along, high energy punk rock, and it’s out this Friday! You can pre-order copies of the four way split cassette How Much Art Can You Fake? right now and the fine folks at For The Love of Punk are streaming the whole thing this week too!

Red Teeth – Light Bender 7″

The great Lansing duo Red Teeth release their first 7-inch via GTG this week! Thursday March 17th at The Avenue Cafe (which also doubles as a tour-homecoming-of-sorts show for The Hat Madder) this four song slab of wax will be available to the public for the first time and it is not to be missed. Light Bender (GTG083) showcases the frantic, angular instrumental skills of the two brothers that compose Red Teeth while cramming in enough fuzzy hooks to not completely melt your mind over the record’s 14 explosive minutes. The record boasts a timeless production sound – care of Funender mastermind Colin Such – with nods to classic hardcore and post-punk that maintains plenty of edge to still not seem like throwback music. This is the real deal! Check out “Light Bender, Sound Bender” below and click here for the release party event info!

BERMUDA SNOHAWK 2015 (GTG084) is LIVE!

snohawk2015ART

Here it is! The perfect distillation of all of our mixed feelings regarding these winter holidays, the – get this, tenth annual edition! – 2015 Bermuda Snohawk. Available for free download from our friends at Bermuda Mohawk Productions as well as a limited-run of physical CDs available in Lansing/ for the first few (un?)lucky folks that ask us for a copy. GTG acts Stargrazer, Sleeping Timmy, The Plurals, Hunky Newcomers, and CrookedSound all appear as well as friends old and new like the Cartridge Family (still alive, who knew??!?), Cavalcade, Geistlos, Bluffing the Ghosts, Ben Pierogi (of Toledo’s Infernal Names), Jonathan Coody (from the great Ninja Gun), Protected Left (BMP all-star MI transplants tearing it up in the Bay Area), Blaine & His Keyboard, Scary Women, and those terrible crusties in Smashing Blumkins, plus the longtime Snohawk-only projects like Neon Tuesday, Cabin Fever, Iron Christmas, and Bruno Fox with some new terrifying additions to Snohawk canon tying it together.

Cale posted some fine thoughts at the download page for the comp, including some insights into why the Snohawk started in the first place (for many of us it’s now just part of the holiday landscape so the “why,” whether the reasons are real or not, isn’t even really part of the conversation at this point) that are definitely worth reading, but here’s an excerpt:

Ten years, and this stupid comp is probably just about the most (if only) constant thing in the lives many of the friends family that keep it going. I know it’s been just about the only in mine.

Well anyway, this is a lot of rambling, I’m aware, but this is the 10th edition, so bear with me. If you take nothing elfs (ha!) from this, here’s the tl;dr points:
1) If you’re a grown up, you should go listen to (semi-defunct Detroit DIY label Suburban Sprawl Music) those SSM comps…they were the (much better executed) inspiration for these all along.
2) The perseverance and momentum built by Bermuda Snohawk owes a great debt to Tommy Plural & GTG…but at this point, supersedes probably anything either of us could control. It’s kind of scary and kind of inspiring, and wholly hilarious.
3) Everyone that’s been involved with these is as much of a family as I’ve ever known. Thank you for coming together all of these years giving us something to grasp onto to keep us all from flinging into some sort of cold and distant orbit. It means more to me than you’ll ever know.

Right back at ya Cale! Happy winter and shit – Tommy Plural & GTG
