What a great year! Thanks for everything, let’s see what we can pull off in 2020!
Here it is! Holiday cheer and fear from your good friends at GTG and BMP! This year’s addition to the winter madness series sees The Plurals gettin’ sweet and sentimental, Tim Hoh from Honah Lee firmly throwing his hat in the ring as the greatest kids’ music singer of our generation, Drinking Mercury cover Woody Guthrie, Cavalcade parody Nada Surf, The Hunky Newcomers have a confusing party, Jeremy Porte
UPDATE: THE COMP IS LIVE
The latest iteration of our long-running holiday compilation/nonsense melee/friend party with Bermuda Mohawk is out this Friday 12/21! Check out this great article about the compilation that Carol Thompson wrote for the Lansing State Journal!
This year’s comp features new tracks from Flatfoot, Erotic Novels, CrookedSound, Isaac Vander Schuur, The Plurals, Matt Waterman, Disappointed Dad, Tigershark Don’t Quit, Sleeping Timmy, Scary Women, Jeremy Porter, Cavalcade, Dale J Gordon, Weltschmerz, Blaine and His Keyboard, the Ryne Experience, and Smashing Blumkins alongside new artists and side projects, totaling to 24 songs. Things go live on Friday – and there’s also a release party at The Avenue Cafe where limited hard copies will be available and some of the bands will play their Snohawk songs from over the years. Punks With Lunch donations too! SEASON! TIS!
It’s here, the 12th annual holiday malaise soiree. Cheers!
Make sure to download for the full effect, hint hint 😉
2017 is wrapping up and there’s a glimmer of hope for the future. Starting with these last couple live dates from GTG bands. Come on out and toast the new year with us!
Honah Lee have some east coast dates, including two with When Particles Collide:
Tommy Plural (who released “Idiot Cousin” on GTG this spring) will be playing full band on a stacked bill at The Avenue Cafe in Lansing this Friday:
The Plurals will be returning to the dank (no, not that way) stage of Mac’s Bar on the 23rd – which will also be the release party for the 2017 Bermuda Snohawk!!! :
Bong Mountain are playing with Mustard Plug at the Intersection in Grand Rapids for a super dank (yes, that way) show on the 28th:
Jeremy Porter and The Tucos (who released “Don’t Worry It’s Not Contagious” with GTG last month) are playing a NYE bash in Ferndale:
And we’ll be having a massive blowout at The Avenue Cafe on New Year’s Eve as well, with music from a GTG supergroup!
There’s also STILL more new music to come in 2017. Nuts!!!
Let the shining rays of brilliance shine! Bermuda Snohawk 2016 has arrived, the GTG/ Bermuda Mohawk annual holiday gift (in its 11th edition!) of wintry-yuletide-seasonal joy and disaffection – a stocking stuffer of love and depravity! Up for free download via BMP, check out new and unreleased tunes from City Mouse, Cavalcade, The Plurals, Frank and Earnest, Scary Women, The Hunky Newcomers, Sleeping Timmy, middleman, Dale J Gordon, Bluffing the Ghosts, and MORE, including the various side projects featuring folks from all over the geographical map and musical (and non-musical) realm. This comp has become something of a Lansing-based DIY institution (for better or worse) and it just sort of comes together by itself at this point, with GTG and BMP just sort of lighting the path a bit. With how 2016 has been as a year, there’s a bit more darkness lurking at the edges of a lot of these tracks, but still plenty to laugh about all the way. Putting this comp together is always a highlight of the year for us, and there can be something very cathartic about just having some fun and making music with abandon. Thanks to everyone who joined in to help make it happen this year, and anyone that didn’t but wants to in the future, come on over! There’s literally no process to curating the lineup than people sending stuff to us so it’s a free-for-all, all-is-welcome party. Enjoy yourselves, and let’s hold ourselves up, together, for the last week of this gut-punching year. Much love from GTG and BMP!
Here it is! The perfect distillation of all of our mixed feelings regarding these winter holidays, the – get this, tenth annual edition! – 2015 Bermuda Snohawk. Available for free download from our friends at Bermuda Mohawk Productions as well as a limited-run of physical CDs available in Lansing/ for the first few (un?)lucky folks that ask us for a copy. GTG acts Stargrazer, Sleeping Timmy, The Plurals, Hunky Newcomers, and CrookedSound all appear as well as friends old and new like the Cartridge Family (still alive, who knew??!?), Cavalcade, Geistlos, Bluffing the Ghosts, Ben Pierogi (of Toledo’s Infernal Names), Jonathan Coody (from the great Ninja Gun), Protected Left (BMP all-star MI transplants tearing it up in the Bay Area), Blaine & His Keyboard, Scary Women, and those terrible crusties in Smashing Blumkins, plus the longtime Snohawk-only projects like Neon Tuesday, Cabin Fever, Iron Christmas, and Bruno Fox with some new terrifying additions to Snohawk canon tying it together.
Cale posted some fine thoughts at the download page for the comp, including some insights into why the Snohawk started in the first place (for many of us it’s now just part of the holiday landscape so the “why,” whether the reasons are real or not, isn’t even really part of the conversation at this point) that are definitely worth reading, but here’s an excerpt:
Ten years, and this stupid comp is probably just about the most (if only) constant thing in the lives many of the friends family that keep it going. I know it’s been just about the only in mine.
Well anyway, this is a lot of rambling, I’m aware, but this is the 10th edition, so bear with me. If you take nothing elfs (ha!) from this, here’s the tl;dr points:
1) If you’re a grown up, you should go listen to (semi-defunct Detroit DIY label Suburban Sprawl Music) those SSM comps…they were the (much better executed) inspiration for these all along.
2) The perseverance and momentum built by Bermuda Snohawk owes a great debt to Tommy Plural & GTG…but at this point, supersedes probably anything either of us could control. It’s kind of scary and kind of inspiring, and wholly hilarious.
3) Everyone that’s been involved with these is as much of a family as I’ve ever known. Thank you for coming together all of these years giving us something to grasp onto to keep us all from flinging into some sort of cold and distant orbit. It means more to me than you’ll ever know.
Right back at ya Cale! Happy winter and shit – Tommy Plural & GTG
