OUT NOW: Drinking Mercury / The Soods

5 new songs apiece from one of the longest serving GTG bands and the newest GTG band! Drinking Mercury recorded something like 17 songs at a cabin in Bitely, MI over the course of a couple trips in the last year and this split has the first batch of tunes to be released from these sessions. In addition to the advance single “The Market” the remaining four songs feature all of the group’s songwriters as well as a new arrangement of a traditional song. The rest of the songs from the cabin sessions will be out later this year! The Soods debuted earlier this year with some low-key releases but are now taking off in a big way with this release, featuring a who’s who of Grand Rapids musical talent. Members of longtime outfits Elroy Meltzer, Lazy Genius, The Howlers, and more are featured throughout and the result is a shimmery, tightly arranged batch of indie pop songs with an economy that would make Bob Pollard proud. Check out the album on our bandcamp page, stream it on Spotify, order a CD from our store… have at it!

2019 – So Far

Halfway through the year, this is what we’ve got:

Cavalcade – Sonic Euthanasia. A sludgy masterpiece from our favorite experimental metal friends.

The Plurals – Mumblebee. Volume one of GTG noisy-poppy-ceiling-punchers’ “BEES” album series!

Robot (Re)pair – End Transmissions. Wry, catchy, spicy garagey pop-punk from our lovely Arizonan artificial “intelligent” pals.

Jeremy Porter – 1987. The best Detroit powerpopper in the land gets his acoustic side out there for all to bask in.

For The Record Showcase Volume 1. Both a celebration of Sleeping Timmy & Ryne Clarke’s radio show and a new compilation with tons of new and previously unreleased music from Michigan and beyond.

Plenty more to come in the second half of 2019!

Yep, you read that right, a new 7-inch from Jeremy Porter and the Tucos to round off a great year of releases! Wow!

Blaine and His Keyboard EP – OUT NOW

Blaine cover pngLansing weirdo singer-songwriter Blaine and His Keyboard has finally issued their debut EP and we couldn’t be more stoked to be a part of it! Blaine has been kicking around the scene for a few years and is a veteran of multiple GTG Fests but has never had a proper release. With the help of engineer extraordinaire Jason Roedel, Blaine has finally captured the manic energy of his stage show in a neat little package and you can stream it, download it, and buy it on CD now! Whoo!

PluralMouse2018 – Thanks!

That was a great tour! Truly a pleasure to spend a few weeks in February in southern California/Mexico/AZ and back and getting to play music all along the way. Thank you Awesome Fest! Thank you everyone! Here’s a couple snapshots of the tour, more can be found on instagram with the #pluralmouse2018 thing.

The Sexy Murders / Drinking Mercury split – out now!

Out Now! Split record featuring four new songs apiece from The Sexy Murders and Drinking Mercury. Limited run of clear vinyl will be out in March too! We’ve been tinkering with this release for a little awhile now and we’re very excited to set it out into the world. This is the first long-from release from Drinking Mercury since 2011’s Orcades and while there have been some memorable compilation appearances from this band in the interim it’s nice to have a collection of tunes from the original GTG band in 2018. This record also doubles as the debut release from The Sexy Murders, the latest project to feature Crooked Sound’s Eric Merckling, in collaboration with his old Calliope bandmate Andy Dryer and perennial GTG player Hattie Danby. Their contributions to the record do recall the first two Calliope albums , and Eric’s Crooked Sound project releases but they also have their own unique vibe, showcasing the creativity and songwriting chops of these Michigan music veterans.

At the bandcamp link you can order the vinyl version, which is a very limited edition lathe-cut clear 12-inch manufactured by Little Elephant Lathe Cuts in Toledo. The records are packaged in an origami-style fold with artwork unique to the vinyl version. Only a couple dozen of these were pressed so get on it if you want one! They’ll ship out in March and we’ll also have a couple release parties for the record then too. Stay tuned!
