Late April Fake GTG Fest!

A bunch of us basically accidentally booked a bunch of shows this week in Lansing, leading to a sort of springtime GTG Fest! It’s about time this spring thing happened too, we were getting some of the most wicked Cabin Fever to date.
apr-2018

Thursday April 26th The Hat Madder – with their freshly released vinyl edition of Rotting On The Vine – will be rocking out at The Avenue Cafe alongside Connecticut piano ‘n art duo Pocket Vinyl, Grand Rapids punk people The Quirk, and treasured locals Scary Women and Blaine & His Keyboard. The next day, April 27th, Drinking Mercury – also with their freshly released vinyl split with The Sexy Murders – will be gracing the Avenue stage with our old friends The Jackpine Snag and new friends Dirty Deville. The Avenue gets another dose of fun when, Saturday April 28th, Miski from City Mouse hosts and performs a night of punk rock featuring Heart and Lung from Cleveland and Lansing rascals Stop Bobby Hatch, Foxhole, and an acoustic set from Dasterds. Finally, just down the block, The Stick Arounds will be playing at Green Door on April 28th with Moto and Cardboard Bullies (which includes, among others, Chris from Narc Out the Reds/ The Hat Madder). Madness! Great accidental work everyone!

GTG097: Two Houses “I Feel So Good I Can’t Stand Myself” cassette out now!

two-houses-cover

We’ve been buds with Chicago’s Two Houses for over 5 years now and we couldn’t be happier to finally be working on a release with them! Their album I Feel So Good I Can’t Stand Myself got a vinyl release via Rad Girlfriend Records – who described the record as “transcend[ing] the boundaries of punk rock while never abandoning it” – last fall and we’ve put it out on cassette just in time for their spring tour. This is a limited run so make sure to get ’em while you can. The album shows off their instrumental chops while never letting a hooky chorus pass by, crafting the type of listening experience that’s just as rewarding on your home stereo as it is in a sweaty, beer-soaked room. Here’s hoping this is the first of many releases we get to partner up with some of our favorite Windy City pals. Tour dates below!

5/19 – Showroom Studios (Indianapolis, IN)
5/20 – Blind Bob’s Bar (Dayton, OH)
5/21 – Northside Yacht Club (Cincinnati, OH)
5/22 – TreeBar (Columbus, OH)
5/23 – The Burl (Lexington, KY)
5/24 – JJ’s Bohemia (Chattanooga, TN)
5/25 – The Clermont Lounge (Atlanta, GA)
5/26 – TBA (Birmingham, AL)
5/27 – Eric’s Skatopia (Memphis, TN)
5/28 – Evergreen Park (Carbondale, IL)

GTG092: Bermuda Snohawk 2016 Out Now!

snohawk-2016

Let the shining rays of brilliance shine! Bermuda Snohawk 2016 has arrived, the GTG/ Bermuda Mohawk annual holiday gift (in its 11th edition!) of wintry-yuletide-seasonal joy and disaffection – a stocking stuffer of love and depravity! Up for free download via BMP, check out new and unreleased tunes from City Mouse, Cavalcade, The Plurals, Frank and Earnest, Scary Women, The Hunky Newcomers, Sleeping Timmy, middleman, Dale J Gordon, Bluffing the Ghosts, and MORE, including the various side projects featuring folks from all over the geographical map and musical (and non-musical) realm. This comp has become something of a Lansing-based DIY institution (for better or worse) and it just sort of comes together by itself at this point, with GTG and BMP just sort of lighting the path a bit. With how 2016 has been as a year, there’s a bit more darkness lurking at the edges of a lot of these tracks, but still plenty to laugh about all the way. Putting this comp together is always a highlight of the year for us, and there can be something very cathartic about just having some fun and making music with abandon. Thanks to everyone who joined in to help make it happen this year, and anyone that didn’t but wants to in the future, come on over! There’s literally no process to curating the lineup than people sending stuff to us so it’s a free-for-all, all-is-welcome party. Enjoy yourselves, and let’s hold ourselves up, together, for the last week of this gut-punching year. Much love from GTG and BMP!

YES! (GTG Fest / Small Parks/ The Stick Arounds)

GTG Fest 2016: SUCCESS! Soooooo many good times. Thanks so much to The Avenue Cafe, all the raffle donors, the attendees, the bands, the city of Lansing… everyone! GTG Fest 2016 was the biggest year yet for us and we can’t wait to see what the future holds! Even if right now we’re all still nursing our sore bodies and unraveled minds! That’s how you know it’s a fest weekend!

This weekend was also really important to us because we released two new LPs and in the process had two more bands join our family! Small Parks released their debut LP “Honest Light” on vinyl (it came out digitally in the spring but now it’s a for-real real record!) Friday night, with The Stick Arounds following suit with the release of their debut (recorded live at the much beloved and missed Mystery Garage) LP “Mystery Garage” on Saturday night. Two different perspectives of the Michigan DIY community, many styles and sounds, and all good, honest pure-GTG Records goodness. You can order ’em at our store right now!

Expect further updates on these two great bands and more info on their records in the coming days. It was a great weekend and there’s still so much to take in! Good times.

Stoopfest!

stoopfest.jpg

This Saturday, April 23, in Lansing there’s a fantastic all day show called Stoopfest happening at six house venues on the lovely Eastside. A few years ago we at GTG tossed around the idea of trying to have a multi-venue house show weekend fest thing in Lansing but we never seriously pursued it, so it’s been really cool seeing a similar idea come to fruition completely independently of us – and it’ll also be cool to mostly just be spectators and get to take it all in! The Plurals close out things at Lamp House at 10 PM but throughout the day at all of the houses there’s tons of great music, comedy, and more happening. My biggest bummer of the day is that I won’t be able to get to see Lucy because I’ll be busy setting up and then playing at a different house during their set! The schedule is below and they also have a bandcamp page where people can sample the lineup. Can’t wait!
