GTG104: The Hat Madder “Rotting On The Vine” Out Now!

rotting-on-the-vine-cover
Yes, GTG Fest 2017 saw the release of the fourth album by The Hat Madder. Isaac and company have been toiling over this for a couple years now and the results are well worth it. Intricate production, lush vocal harmonies, off-kilter lyrics, demented pop hooks – it’s all here in another classic from The Hat Madder. Here’s what Wax and Wane Music had to say in an advance review:

“In a day and age of singles, streaming and withering attention spans, Vander Schuur and The Hat Madder have crafted a thoughtful, honest and intricate album that is most impactful when consumed in one full sitting. “R0771N9 ON 7HE V1N3″ stands as a testament to the power of rock music, the catharsis of sound.”

Check it digitally out below. CDs are available now with vinyl and cassette scheduled to coincide with The Hat Madder’s spring tour.

GTG103 – Jason Paul “A Rebel One” Out now!

We have the pleasure to release the cassette version of one of our favorite records from the last year, “A Rebel One” by Jason Paul. Jason’s music has an infectious Midwestern flavor from his formative years in Milwaukee, but it’s filtered through the melodic, full-tilt gritty energy that can only come from his adopted home of San Pedro, CA. This record is a full on collaboration with Sean Cole from Toys That Kill, with Sean and Jason sharing instrumental and production duties with a couple assists from our old friend Joey Centofanti of Black Sparrow Press. It’s a family affair and we couldn’t be happier to have this group of musicians in our orbit. You can catch Jason on tour with his band Jason Paul and The Know It Alls – The Plurals just had the pleasure to do a run of west coast and southwest dates with them on the “Swish” tour – and look forward to more new music to come from this perfect Midwest-meets-West Coast sound. Stream the record and get the cassette from us, and if vinyl is more your flavor you can get it from Recess Ops!

GTG101: The Plurals “Swish” Out Now!

GTG100 Out Now!

Surprise and thank you, here’s the 100th release from GTG Records. 21 new songs, most of them exclusive and brand new. The Plurals, City Mouse, Honah Lee, Drinking Mercury, Small Parks, Wade from Dreadpool Parker, The Hunky Newcomers, Calliope, Jeremy Porter And The Tucos, Alpha Rabbit, The Stick Arounds, Half Tongue, Stargrazer, Sleeping Timmy, Frank and Earnest, Jason Paul, The Hat Madder, CrookedSound, Tommy Plural, No Skull, AND the debut of Disappointed Dad. Sheesh!! Most of these bands have current or upcoming releases on GTG – and they’re all friends and part of our wider community – and they cover both a wide range of styles and, geographically, most of the US. It’s wild for us to think about how much has happened since 10 years ago when we were just getting into the CD release game with The Plurals and The Break-Ups, something that we celebrated in late 2007 with a mostly-Lansing area compilation CD release called Situations At Hand. It’s amazing that a lot of the people involved in that comp are still present 85(!) releases later on GTG100 but the fact that the family has grown so much is even more amazing. 2007 really was the launch year for GTG Records so as we gear up for the fall releases of 2017 we’re going to be periodically looking back at some highlights of the first 10 years of the label. And you better believe GTG Fest (Oct 12-15!) is going to be the most nuts it’s ever been this year. Good times!

Red Teeth / Some Plurals split (GTG099) out now!

Lucky 13th of July, here’s a surprise release of a compilation of live recordings from last summer’s Red Teeth/ Some Plurals tour. This tour was in support of Red Teeth’s fantastic Light Bender 7-inch, with live renditions of all of the songs from that release appearing here in addition to other Red Teeth songs and a rendition of “Hey Sandy” by Polaris. Hattie and Tommy from The Plurals also performed on this tour as a duo and in collaboration with Ryan and Rael from Red Teeth, leading to some rare 4-piece renditions of Plurals songs. Two songs from the forthcoming Plurals album Swish appear here in different form along with older Plurals songs and a cover of “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” by The Shirelles. Make sure to keep your ears peeled for some Tim Hoh spoken word cameos on some of the tracks too. Pay-what-you-want download available now, cassettes in collaboration with Tape Swap Radio, featuring live sessions each band did with them, will ship next month. Tune in to WLVU: The Sound of The Underground at 8 PM tonight to hear a special broadcast of the Plurals session we did with them on this tour! So many activities!
