We had a terrible ice storm in mid-Michigan this year, for anyone who doesn’t live in the midwest or was smart enough to stay inside and not talk to anyone or get online for the last week. As a result, the annual “holiday” nonsense release from Bemuda Mohawk and GTG was delayed and some tracks didn’t get finished. But we got it out now! 19 tracks ranging from sincerity to depravity, much of which was recorded under the influence of various kinds of whiskey. New music from The Plurals, Frank and Earnest, CrookedSound, Hunky Newcomers, middleman, Sleeping Timmy and close GTG friends like Cavalcade, the Chortys (feat. members of City Mouse and Rumspringer), Bluffing the Ghosts, etc etc as well as the debut from MI/CA sultry transcontinental chillers Moist Things, Toledo scum rockers Holloway Flasher, bummed out folker guy Mitch Murphy and the Doves, heart of gold Chicago punks Pink Eyes, as well as the return of Snohawk legends Foxy Cyrus, Cabin Fever, and Neon Tuesday, and more! Listen, download, share, enjoy. Hard copies will be available at various BMP/ GTG parties over the next week or two in Lansing. E-mail us at gtgrecords at gmail dot com if you want a copy and live out of state. Finally, a jam to ring in the new year.
This one’s been in the works for awhile! Two new songs each from The Plurals and our beloved San Pedro brethren Black Sparrow Press! Each band turns in a complementary cut of noisy, melodic rock ‘n roll equal parts punk abandon and singer-songwriter introspection. Limited to 300 copies on black vinyl, this is a co-release by GTG, Something Dancey, and Minor Bird Records. Pre-order it now (until 12/24) and you’ll get a bonus disc of rarities that will never be available anywhere else and a love note from a member of one of these fine organizations. $7 includes shipping for this once-in-a-lifetime offer! HOLIDAYS
Narc Out the Reds “Have Just Enough to Cover Up” CD (GTG067)
The third release from these Lansing favorites continues the streak of paranoia-infused “prog pop” with a greater emphasis on the “progressive” this time around. Over the course of these five songs the influence points pivot from New Wave of British Heavy Metal riffs to Cure-ish atmospherics to vocal melodies that would do Freddie Mercury proud with a foray into beat poetry (!?) along the way. Instead of being disjointed, however, this is clearly the work of a band with a vision and the whole thing plays well as a continuous suite. Crisply recorded and mixed by our own Isaac Vander Schuur and mastered by knob fiddler extraordinaire Glenn Brown, we highly recommend you cover up with this EP for the winter. $5
Narc Out the Reds “…Have Just Enough to Cover Up” EP/CD (GTG067) is coming out of a set of speakers near you. We’ll have it in the store next week but tomorrow night (November 13, 2013) there’s a release party at the Avenue in Lansing. Starting at 8 PM there will be a soiree set to the sounds of the new EP, followed by live performances by Nick Merz, Calliope, New Day Dreamers, the Playback, and then Narc Out the Reds themselves. Here’s an event thing for the release party. This new EP is rock-solid, full of adventurous instrumentation but heavy on the melody – a group that’s been called “paranoid prog-pop” keeps getting more progressive and catchier while still kinda making you uncomfortable. Kudos! To promote the EP the boys will also be playing in Mt. Pleasant, MI on November 14 at Rubbles and Petoskey, MI at Johnny’s Suicide Garage on November 15th.
That’s all stuff by Plurals and Hat Madder folks, two bands that have no shows scheduled for a few months. But you can see these people this month:

Thank you so much to everyone that played, came to, and helped out for GTG Fest 2013. It was our best year yet! That’s sincere, we would own up if it didn’t compare to last year or something. Big thanks to people who donated raffle prizes – Golden Harvest, Schuler Books, the Record Lounge, Harrison Roadhouse, Corie Parkhill, Craig Horky… am I forgetting someone? I didn’t put the raffle together, I have an excuse. But serious thanks. We also could not have done the show without Eric and his Mystery Garage, nor the fine people at the Avenue Cafe. Let’s do it again!
When we went to promote the show on the Impact last Thursday we put together a mix CD of bands playing at GTG Fest. We didn’t get through the whole thing on the air, but I’m putting it up for free download at the brand new free downloads section of the website. Check it out! Relive the memories, or feel bad that you weren’t there. There’s also some cool archival stuff on that page, so there’s lots of stuff to relive and/or feel bad about.
