Cave Needles self-titled (GTG070) pre-orders / release party this weekend

caveneedlescoverThis Saturday, June 28th we will be having a release party for the self-titled debut album by Michigan shoegaze/ indie/ beach-rock band Cave Needles. This band formed less than a year ago out of the ashes of various post-hardcore bands, the members itching to try something new. The result is a collection of concisely crafted, ethereal yet catchy songs that owe equal debts to classic garage rock, 1980s 4AD artists, and modern spacey luminaries like Real Estate and Wild Nothing. The CD and digital versions of this album are being released by GTG, with the vinyl coming from Warm Ratio / Disposable America and the cassette being released via RTA Art Collective. We’re very excited to be working with so many great people with this release!

Pre-order the album now! Orders placed this week ship free (ships next week).

The release party is Saturday June 28th at the Avenue Cafe in Lansing, MI. For the party we managed to pull Lansing space-rock legends (and future GTG artists? wha?) Calliope out of their basement and we will also be hosting fellow Warm Ratio artists Sapphic. RSVP via the facebook here if that’s your thing.

June 2014!

June 2014! News roundup!

The Hat Madder is going on tour right now!

6/11 – Historian Session (Youngstown, OH)
6/12 – Smiling Moose (Pittsburgh, PA)
6/13 – Goodbye Blue Monday (Brooklyn, NY)
6/14 – Mill Hill Basement (Trenton, NJ) w/ Honah Lee!
6/15 – Columbus,OH w/ Hundos

Honah Lee is also playing in Philadelphia at Kung Fu Necktie tonight (June 7th)! They’re also playing Art All Night (Trenton, NJ) on June 21st. They will be joined that day by Not the Bees! who also have some good shows coming up out east:

6/13 – Crunch House (Bridgeport, CT) w/ Gameday Regulars
6/14 – Even Flow (Bay Shore, NY) w/ Gameday Regulars
6/24 – Asbury Lanes (Asbury Park, NJ) w/ Masked Intruder, Direct Hit

The Plurals are playing at The Avenue (Lansing) on June 18th with Black Flag. This is one of the only Plurals shows this summer and we’re pushing a CD of new recordings from the in-the-mixing-stages upcoming album if anyone gets a ticket for us to come to this show. Black Flag is always full of surprises and from what I gather this incarnation of the band is doing more of the later Rollins-era material which is pretty intriguing to me. One of the reasons why The Plurals won’t be playing live for a bit after this is because Nich Plural is going on tour with Hunky Newcomers starting June 27th. They kick off the tour on 6/27 at the Livewire in Chicago, following that up with a stop at Firehouse Pizza in Normal, IL on June 30th before heading east for a few weeks. They’re still updating info on the tour but you can check it out here.

Rounding things out:
6/13 – Cat Midway @ SchwondSoundSted (Port Huron, MI)
6/13 – The Need You Nows @ The Avenue (Lansing, MI) w/ Smashing Blumkins
6/27 – The Fiction Junkies @ Midtown Brewing Company (Lansing)
6/28 – Calliope, Cave Needles (RELEASE PARTY), Fisherking @ The Avenue

That last listed date is worthy of note because we are releasing the CD version of the Cave Needles debut album (RTA Art Collective put out the cassete and Warm Ratio/ Disposable America is doing the vinyl). Cave Needles features some longtime GTG band people and former members of Homelife and Nightlights, and their record is some cool spacey poppy rock goodness.

Also, Frank and Earnest‘s in-the-works for a bit new CD Modern Country will be released September 6th. Big smiles.

2014 – So Far

This is what we’ve done so far in 2014:

Released two new pieces of vinyl: The Hunky Newcomers proper debut LP Secret of the Booze and the latest in the long saga of music by The Plurals in the form of a split 7-inch with our California brothers Black Sparrow Press.

Had four bands tour the US: Hunky Newcomers, The Plurals, The Hat Madder, and Honah Lee. We were able to spread the GTG word in nearly every part of the country, save the Pacific Northwest… which we’ll be coming back to as soon as possible!

Released 7 new music videos: One each by The Plurals (“How About the Weather”) and The Hunky Newcomers (“Time to Die”) and a whopping 5 by Honah Lee, who have been building up excitement for their due-out-later-this-year LP by releasing a song a month via music video.

Coming up: The Hat Madder will be doing some east coast dates in June, The Hunky Newcomers will be out for a couple weeks in late June and early July, Frank and Earnest just did the final mix session for their new CD, Honah Lee and The Plurals are both separately putting the finishing touches on new albums to be released later this year, and we’ll be working with some new people very, very soon. Can you feel it?

Just a typical Tuesday at GTG House

Fresh music and video from Honah Lee! Lots of GTG friends present in this one.

The Plurals / Black Sparrow Press split now available on vinyl!!

PLuralsBSPsplitFRONTSMALLFresh off a killer winter southwestern-ish tour (thanks everybody!) The Plurals and Black Sparrow Press split 7-inch is finally available for order! Paul Silver from Jersey Beat was nice enough to write an advance review, calling the Plurals side “a great old school post-hardcore sound, with loads of bounciness,” with the Black Sparrow Press tunes recalling “a pop-punk Americana sound,”  and succinctly declaring the overall music of the split “great.” You can order the record from us here, with digital downloads available here. One of our proud partners for this release is Missoula based label Minor Bird Records, who will soon have their own exclusive version of the record with alternate artwork available here, for all you collector types. Keep an eye on that! And check out their other releases, there’s some great stuff there.
